Make Room for Daddy, 1953-1965. Danny Thomas’s brash, larger-than-life Lebanese uncle. Full of old country opinions. Keep your ears peeled for an Arabic word or two!
Love that Danny Thomas maintained his Lebanese-American roots as Danny Williams.
Hans appeared 24 times on Make Room for Daddy, 20 as Uncle Tonoose. Here he meets Danny’s second wife, Kathy (Marjorie Lord), in Kathy Is Approved, Season 5, Ep. 3, 1957.
Marjorie Lord has a much better chemistry with Danny than first wife, Margaret (Jean Hagen), who conveniently “died.” Margaret seemed curt, brittle … As with many tv series, the early Kathy years, seasons 5-6, are the most appealing … Just as the first two seasons of Leave It to Beaver … Ward and June are a real couple with playful, give-and-take interactions … before they became one-dimensional “parents” for the rest of the series.
