The TV Theme Song Sing-Along Song Book … 1984 …

While Perk lays claim to the song book … Black Beauty is peeking up in the corner …

The first book I remember reading and comprehending … Black Beauty, by Anna Sewell. 1955 Whitman edition … Specifically the very first page …

Second or third grade, 1958 or ’59. At home, the Glenwood house. My very own copy.

Still have the glossy covered, battered original in my box of horse books. Bought a more pristine copy at an antique shop, probably 20 years ago.

Anna Sewell died in 1878, less than a year after Black Beauty was published.

How I Keep ’em

With over 3,700 movies, tv shows, cartoons and short subjects on DVD … how can I keep ’em wrangled in a space saving way? … Univenture DVD binder pages! 8 DVDs per double-sided sheet!

DVDs fit into their slots from the top, with a protective fold-down flap … soft microfiber backing. Complete protection … And they won’t fall out! … After plenty of research, ordered directly from Univenture, July 2011.  Another batch, September 2011 (prices greatly reduced!).

More storage tips: … Avery 3-ring binders, 1-1/2″ (not larger), 10 sheets per binder … 80 DVDs per binder! … Easy to carry and less chance of damage.

Got my first set of black Avery binders at Staples, across the river in Jantzen Beach. Looking for a bargain (plus no tax) … Target had an even better discount, but colors were anything but basic black … Wow! What a non-conformist! I splurged with GREEN binders!

Major space saving since the original days of VHS tapes:

• 1982? … First movie I recorded, Drums Along the Mohawk, 1939 … top-loading VCR, little portable color tv … My upstairs bedroom, facing the street. Thompson Place two-story duplex I shared with Wendy … Working at the Washington State Library, Gov. Docs … Asked Mom over to watch the wonder of a recorded color film on a tiny screen in my bedroom … The wonders of modern technology! … And it was wonderful!
