July 5, 2014 — On the TCM message board last night, I saw Night of the Quarter Moon, 1959, was pulled from the schedule. I don’t have satellite/cable tv, so it doesn’t matter. But, I like to keep up on what’s showing … Checked YouTube (computer) … There it was! Cut in two parts and a VERY shaky copy, but BTN (better than nothing) …
The first half ended, other movies were listed on the right side of the screen … YouTube’s ploy worked! A Western, color, Randolph Scott, 1950s … Good visual quality, better than a B-Western, with Jocelyn Brando (Marlon’s sister) … wanted to see what she was like … Ten Wanted Men, 1955.
Then the bad guys began swooping into town … I mean BAD, scarey bad … Ready to do dirty deeds for resident bad-meister, Richard Boone.
There he was, head honcho of badness … that face, that wily, plotting, vicious face … He outdid himself … topped off with leather cuffs! … I’ve seen him SO many times in tough character parts … It’s been a while … and now, pow! Who IS he?? … Leo Gordon!!
Ten Wanted Men, 1955 … Left, with Richard Boone … Right, with Lee Van Cleef
My favorite photo … with Mickey Rooney, Baby Face Nelson, 1957 … as John Dillinger …
Off-screen, married to Lynn Cartwright 50 years, 1950-2000
- His daughter has set up a Leo Gordon Facebook page
